Mueller-Bies - History

Mueller-Bies Funeral Home was founded in 1906 by Charles H. Mueller. Known at various times as the Mueller Undertaking Parlors and the Charles H. Mueller Mortuary, it operated in St. Paul from 1906 to 1935 at several different locations in the Dale St. - University Ave. area.  In 1935 the Mortuary moved into 575 W. University Ave. in St. Paul, and Charles' stepson, Albert N. Bies, joined him in the business.

In the subsequent years the firm became known as Mueller-Bies Funeral Home.  In 1955, in its fiftieth year of operation, the firm moved to a new location in St. Paul at the corner of Dale and Blair.  In 1970, the building across the street from the funeral home, 625 N. Dale St., was acquired, and the two locations on either side of Dale were operated as the Mueller-Bies East and West Chapels until 1984, when the West Chapel was sold.  A new facility was built in 1985 at the corner of Dale St. and County Road B in Roseville, three miles north of the East Chapel, and was known as the North Chapel.

In 1990 the two sons of Albert N. Bies, Albert W. and Gregory J. Bies became the owners and operators of the Funeral Home.  In 1995, the East Chapel in St. Paul was closed due to the city project to widen Dale St. and the building demolished by the city after 40 years of operation. The Funeral Home continued operations solely out of the North Chapel.  In the fall of 2001, Mueller-Bies Funeral Home expanded into the Lino Lakes area, building a new facility at 7050 Lake Drive; the North Chapel was then renamed the Roseville Chapel.

Today, the Funeral Home continues to serve the community out of both the Lino Lakes and Roseville Chapels, and proudly counts two children, one daughter-in-law, and three grandchildren of Albert N. Bies among its owners and employees.  In 2006, we were proud to celebrate ONE HUNDRED YEARS of service to the families of the Twin Cities..

Mueller-Bies Funeral Home has been continuously owned & operated by its founder’s family since its inception.
