Daniel Jerome Palermo

January 1, 1948 - May 18, 2021

Daniel Palermo, age 73, passed away on May 18, 2021 after a short, but intensive battle with the coronavirus and entered the gates of Heaven. He was born to Louis and Jeanne Palermo of Mora, Minnesota, the second of five children.

He was preceded in death by parents, Louis and Jeanne Palermo, aunt Marie Salmonson (who was like a second mom to Dan’s family), his grandparents and numerous aunts and uncles.

Dan is survived by wife Laurie, son Jeffrey (Blaine), daughter Jacquelyn (St. Paul), four siblings David (Amarillo TX), Dianne (Atherton CA), Douglas (Torrance CA), and Dean (Ramsey MN), five nieces (Elizabeth, Jeanne, Katie, Michele, Chantelle) four nephews (Sam, Forrest, Paul, David), several cousins and many friends and fellow musicians.

Dan and Laurie married July 25, 1981. They purchased a home and raised their two children. Dan was a dedicated husband, father and provider. He made sure his family was loved and well cared for.

Dan graduated from Mora High School and was awarded the John Phillip Sousa award for being the most outstanding band member his senior year. He attended the University of Minnesota where he played trumpet in the U of M Marching Band. Dan enlisted in the U.S. Army and served in the Army Band. After he finished his military service, he went back to school at St. Cloud State University graduating with a major in History and a minor in Political Science. He worked as a Title Examiner at Old Republic Title company from 1975 to 2006.

Dan loved sports (Golden Gophers, Twins, and Vikings) and enjoyed an occasional round of golf with his friends. He also loved playing games, especially crossword puzzles and watching older TV shows such as Laurel & Hardy movies and the Andy Griffith show. Dan liked taking vacations. He and Laurie would travel to Duluth and watch the big ships on Lake Superior. His favorite vacation spot was Disneyworld resorts in Florida. He was a collector of Disney and sports memorabilia.

Dan was a devout Christian. As a child he regularly attended Emmanuel Baptist Church in Mora along with the entire family. As an adult, he was active in his church, North Heights Church, playing trumpet in the church orchestra. He also played trumpet in the Centennial Community Band in the Twin Cities.

Dan was one of those rare people who was quiet, loyal and totally dependable. A fine example for all of us to follow.
