Edna M. Dahn

December 15, 1922 - July 14, 2021

Edna passed away on July 14, 2021, at the age of 98, at her home in St. Paul, MN.

She was born December 15, 1922 to Russell and Laura (Shafer) Emerson near Boyceville, Wisconsin.

She was the fourth of five children and the only daughter. Her early childhood was spent helping with farming activities and attending several country schools in Wisconsin. During her later childhood years she was married to Francis Parent. Their marriage resulted in three children, Russell, William and Betty. They later divorced and Edna moved from Wisconsin to St. Paul, MN with her three young children.

In order to provide for her family, she accepted a position with the Armour Meat Packing Company in St. Paul, MN. While there, she met William Dahn and they were married for 55 years. Their marriage resulted in one daughter, Bonnie (Dahn) Hoberg. After her marriage to William Dahn, she worked several retail positions for Wards and Sears, and eventually did sewing for Zero King coats. Her sewing skills were frequently requested by family and friends. Her final 25 years of employment were with the State of MN in Taxation, Welfare Dept., and the Board of Aging.

Edna was known for her friendly smile, self-confidence, compassion and enjoyed spending time with her many friends. Edna also enjoyed the companionship of her pet kitty, Sara, and other pets that were looking for attention…especially a small dog named Hattie. In addition to her pets, other interests included garage and estate sales, traveling, concerts, fishing at Lake Belle Taine near Nevis, MN, computer games, Facebook and skyping with her grandson in New Zealand.

The final years of her life were spent at Real Life Cooperative of Phalen Village which provided much happiness and joy from her Real Life family. She was active in many Real Life activities including physical exercise classes, puzzles, bingo and social events. She often set up for the morning coffee gatherings and was the first female to walk building security.

Edna was preceded in death by her parents; four brothers; husband, William H. Dahn; sons, Russell and William J.; daughter, Bonnie Hoberg; grandson, Ray Dahn; granddaughter, Shirley Staricha; and daughter-in-law, Roberta Dahn.

She is survived by her daughter, Betty (Eldon) Matz; stepdaughter, Barb Staricha of Coral Springs, FL; 9 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; and 4 great-great-grandchildren.

Edna was a child of God and the family is comforted by the reward she will be experiencing in heaven.
