Kevin J. Baker
“K.B.”

September 30, 1957 – July 17, 2021

It is with great sadness that we share the news that our friend and brother Kevin “KB” Baker passed away at the age of 63, in his hometown of Saint Paul, MN. He was preceded in death by his beloved mother, Jessie Baker.

KB suffered a major stroke in November of 2020 and had been struggling to regain his health, strength and mobility. Following a stroke-related fall in April, serious complications arose that were unfortunately more than he could bear. He went to his final rest on July 17, 2021.

KB was born and raised in Saint Paul and worked for many years as an educator within the Saint Paul Public School system. He was a tough love, no nonsense man, but kind, dedicated and loyal to all who touched his heart. Beloved by his former students and hundreds of friends from all over the globe, KB was known as the unofficial Mayor of Saint Paul. With a great deal of time spent working and playing at Sweeney’s, Fabulous Ferns, Sweet Martha’s Cookie Jar and Brunsons Pub, to name a few, KB seemed to know someone everywhere he went. Literally.

KB attended the University of MN – Morris and was a diehard Gopher fan. From Football to Hockey to Basketball, if they made a jersey, he owned it. He also enjoyed other college ball rivalries, especially between Nebraska and Oklahoma, and made sure you knew what team he was rooting for…Go Sooners!!! KB was an avid hockey fan as well and supported the MN Wild with fervor. More jerseys. And the LA Raiders. More jerseys. And Lord, the baseball hats….ALL the baseball hats.

KB dedicated many years of his life to the National Veterans Wheelchair Games, the National Wheelchair Softball Games, Meals on Wheels for Thanksgiving, and most recently volunteered on the White Earth Reservation Mission Trip in northern MN. Like we said, huge heart, fiercely loyal.

KB will be honored in a celebration of his life on his birthday, September 30, 2021 from 5-9 PM at Giggles' Campfire Grill, 1520 Cooper St, Falcon Heights, located two blocks north of the main gates inside the MN State Fairgrounds. KB's ashes will be interred at Elmhurst Cemetery, on Dale Street in Saint Paul.
