Margaret Louise Nelson
April 26, 1935 - April 8, 2021
Marge, as commonly known, was born in York, NE and grew up as a pastor’s daughter, initially speaking German but learned English by the age of 9. She graduated from Truman High School in southern Minnesota and attended the University of Minnesota where she met her husband, Robert M. Nelson. She worked for Union Pacific in Omaha, commuted by scooter from Rushmore to a job at a chicken plant in Worthington, worked for and retired from IDS Financial Services (now Ameriprise) in Minneapolis, and then worked at Gibbs Farm Museum in St. Paul. She raised four sons, cared for a boy from up the street, sewed, painted, gardened, taught, collected buttons, and enlarged the entrance hole in a birdhouse so birds could nest behind their home. She knew how to drive a clutch, play piano and organ for church, bake Christmas cookies by the quadruple batch, and was a charter, as well as lifelong, active member of King of Kings Lutheran Church in Roseville. She valued her faith and family, proving it by living an outstanding example of a Christian life.
She is survived by her husband of 64 years, Robert; their four sons and wives; Steven, Mark (Laurie), Jeffrey (Beth), and Jonathan (September); four grandchildren, Joshua, Isaiah, Christian, and Andrew; sister, Ruth Klute; sister-in-law, Cordelia Degner.
We have many happy memories of her and will miss her.
Memorial service will be livestreamed 2:00 PM Sunday, April 25 from KING OF KINGS LUTHERAN CHURCH, 2330 N. Dale St., Roseville. Due to COVID distancing protocol, in person attendance will be invite only.
