Cheryl Maxine Briggs (Hvinden) passed away on Thursday, April 9, 2026, after a long battle with dementia.
Through her journey, she remained pleasant but eager to be on the move. She never stopped, loving a cold glass of milk and kept her sweet tooth to the end. Hot fudge sundaes and Golden Oreo pudding were always her favorites.
In the end, it seemed that visits from close family, along with the reassurance that everything was going to be okay, gave her the peace she needed. She was able to let go into her final rest.
Nearly everyone Cheryl encountered in life enjoyed their interactions with her. “How is your mom?” is something her family heard often—from former coworkers to old high school friends. She left a kind impression on people.
That said, she also had a bit of a stubborn streak and liked things done a certain way. It earned her the nickname “Martha,” a nod to Martha Stewart, and anyone who knew her well understood exactly why.
Cheryl was born in Riverdale, North Dakota and grew up in the Lino Lakes/Circle Pines area. After living in several places throughout the northern suburbs, she returned to Lino Lakes for her final years.
She was a daughter, sister, cousin, and niece. Later, she became a wife, a mom, an in-law, an aunt, and eventually a grandma. She loved her grandkids deeply, and looked forward to seeing them at every chance.
With her friends, Cheryl enjoyed staying active and social. She spent time playing softball, bowling, and golfing. Earlier in life, she enjoyed camping and fishing, and later she found joy in things like going on cruises and attending high school football games. Cheryl also accomplished the MS 150, I daunting task on her favorite 10 speed.
She also had a creative side and loved crafting, especially sewing. Some of things she made became part of the homes she and others lived in—small pieces of her that remain.
Louis, her boxer, held a very special place in her heart.
If you knew Cheryl, you knew a kind and giving woman. A woman always willing to lend a hand. Someone you could trust and be comforted by in difficult times.
She was a wonderful human being, and she will be deeply missed.
