He took immense pride in his niece and nephews and made it a point to show up for them.
Daniel Robert Blaisdell, age 49, of St. Paul, Minnesota, passed away suddenly at his home on October 27, 2026, from natural causes. Though his passing was far too soon, Dan leaves behind a lifetime of laughter, countless cherished memories, and a legacy of love that will live on in the hearts of all who knew him.
Born in St. Paul on May 13, 1977, Dan was one of the funniest, most quick-witted people you could ever meet. It was hard to picture him without a smile on his face or to think of Dan without hearing his unmistakable laughter. Always ready with a perfectly timed quip or a quick jab, he had a special gift for making people laugh, often when they needed it most. He was the family jokester, the guy who could turn an ordinary moment into a memorable one, and someone whose presence made every gathering a little brighter.
Dan is survived by his loving parents, Patricia and Robert Blaisdell; his sisters, Tracy (Bill) Bauer and Cathy (Jesse) Hilary; and his brother, Dave Blaisdell. He also leaves behind his beloved niece and nephews, who were the absolute pride and joy of his life: Kellen Krumwiede, Shea Krumwiede, Everett Blaisdell, Connor Blaisdell, Asher Schendel, and Tatem Hilary. He is further survived by his aunts, uncles, and cousins, all of whom loved him dearly, and his dear friend Tony Nachreiner, who was his best and truest friend for most of his life.
Dan was preceded in death by his grandparents, Bunny and Bill Blaisdell and Lou and Archie Schaak, and his Aunt Bev Blaisdell.
Of all the roles Dan played in life, being an uncle was the one he cherished most. He took immense pride in his niece and nephews and made it a point to show up for them, whether that meant cheering from the stands at their sporting events, attending their activities, calling just to check in, or taking them out for a fun adventure. He was always there to offer encouragement, share a laugh, or commiserate over the latest victory (or heartbreak) of Minnesota sports. He didn't just love being their uncle; he made sure they knew how much they meant to him. His love for them was woven into nearly every conversation, and if you knew Dan, you knew all about his niece and nephews.
To them, he was more than an uncle. He was their biggest fan, their confidant, their source of endless entertainment, and the kind of person they could always count on. He showed them through his actions what it means to be present, loyal, generous, and loving. He was, without question, the best uncle.
Dan was also a wonderful brother, always willing to help at a moment's notice, no questions asked. Whether you needed a hand with something or simply someone to bend your ear about any number of financial topics, Dan was there. His family knew they could count on him, and his generosity and loyalty were among the many qualities that made him so special.
Professionally, Dan loved his job with Wells Fargo. He was a loyal employee for 16 years and leaves behind many coworkers and friends who will deeply miss his humor, friendship, and daily presence. He valued the connections he made throughout his life and had a way of making people feel comfortable simply by being himself.
And then, of course, there was Tuukka, Dan's beloved dog and faithful companion. The two shared a special bond, spending countless hours together going for drives and heading out on adventures. Tuukka was never just a dog to Dan; he was family, and anyone who knew Dan knew just how much he loved him. Tuukka was by Dan's side until the very end and has since been adopted by a loving family who will spoil him and care for him until he and Dan meet again someday. It is a comfort to know that Tuukka will continue to be loved just as Dan would have wanted.
Family traditions will never quite be the same without Dan. Every Christmas, he was the stand-in Santa, enthusiastically yelling, "Ho, ho, ho!" as the kids came running to the door. He made the best crab toast, never missed a family event or celebration, loved cheering on Schaak Racing at the Indy 500, was the proud owner of season tickets to the Minnesota State High School Hockey Tournament and loved attending every year, and somehow perfected the art of the Irish goodbye. These little things, so uniquely and unmistakably Dan, are the memories that will bring smiles through the tears for years to come.
Dan had a way of making the ordinary extraordinary. He showed his love by showing up, by making people laugh, by remembering the details, by lending a hand, and by being there when it mattered. He didn't need grand gestures to make an impact. He simply loved his people wholeheartedly, and that love was evident in everything he did.
His sudden and untimely passing has left an enormous hole in the hearts of his family and friends. There will be empty seats at family gatherings, quieter Christmas Eve celebrations, sporting events where his voice will be missed from the stands, and countless moments when someone will think of a joke Dan would have made. There will be times when we instinctively reach for the phone to call him, share a story, or ask his opinion. And there will always be a little less laughter without him here.
But Dan's legacy will live on in the people he loved, the memories he created, and the lessons he taught without ever needing to say a word. His niece and nephews will carry him with them as they grow, remembering the uncle who showed up, cheered them on, made them laugh, and loved them beyond measure. They will remember what it means to be a great uncle because they had the very best.
And so, in true Dan fashion, we will remember him not only with tears but with laughter, with stories retold around the dinner table, with a little good-natured ribbing, with crab toast, and with the kind of love that never really says goodbye.
Better known as Uncle Funcle Dan the Man with the Plan Stan (UFDTMWTPS).
You were loved more than you could ever have known, Dan. You will be missed more than words can say, and you will never, ever be forgotten. Your place in our family and in our hearts will always be yours.
Until we meet again, Dan.
