He was born on August 16, 1935, in St. Paul, MN to Bertha (née Volk) and Michael Pizzella. He was raised in St. Paul and graduated from St. Agnes High School in 1953.
He married Elaine Mahr on July 1, 1961. They resided in Roseville, MN and Eau Claire, WI. They had five children together and later divorced.
He was sole proprietor of Pine Lake Communications. A two-way radio business selling and servicing two-way radios for police, fire, schools, and small businesses.
Don enjoyed coaching and watching his children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren in their sporting events. He was instrumental in both Roseville and Eau Claire Hockey Programs. His passion though was developing his "North 40" aka "The Ranch" into a certified family forest and wildlife sanctuary. He also loved polka dancing and traveled to Slovenia on three separate occasions.
He will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Preceded in death by his parents; and sister, Joanne. Survived by children, Donna Brown, Deanne (Michael) Shaw, Donald Jr. (Shelly), David, Dennis (Nancy); 10 grandchildren; 5 great-grandchildren; and brother, Gerald (Lois).
Memorial Service 11 AM Wednesday, June 18 at MUELLER-BIES FUNERAL HOME-ROSEVILLE, 2130 N. Dale St. (at County Road B). Visitation 10-11 AM Wednesday at the funeral home . Interment Fort Snelling National Cemetery.
