Listen to Obituary

Doris “Dorie” (Stahl) Wiehe died peacefully surrounded by family, on January 12, 2026 at St Therese in Shoreview.

Born September 23, 1936 in Hibbing, Minnesota to Albert and Annie (Marchetti) Stahl. Dorie was proud of her Iron Range roots, and she carried that pride with her to Baltimore, St Paul, and Roseville. Dorie’s energetic spirit and love of life continues to live on in the family who loved her.

Doris graduated from Hibbing High School (1954) and Hibbing Junior College (1956). She got married to her high school sweetheart Jack Wiehe on June 20, 1959 in Hibbing. She loved education and volunteered in many classrooms throughout her life. She had a wonderful career working for the University of Minnesota’s College of Human Ecology. She worked as an Academic Advisor and won the John Tate Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Advising. Her no-nonsense straightforward advice made her beloved by students and staff.

Doris’s involvement with the University was not limited to academic advising. She also loved the Golden Gopher men’s hockey team and maintained season tickets for 20 years. Her love of hockey and support for Mike, Carl, Dale, and Paul’s hockey playing was exemplified by her work with the Roseville Youth Hockey Association. She confidently commented on the games and continued to watch the Gophers faithfully on TV until her passing.

Doris enjoyed spending time outside gardening, entertaining friends, traveling domestically and internationally (England, Italy, and even Russia!), volunteering at Alley Shoppe, and spending time at the cabin on Crosslake. She often went up to the cabin for the entire summer and loved to garden, swim, take the boat out around the lakes, and even waterski! Additionally, Doris’s involvement with the Ramsey County Homemakers, the Trailblazers, and the Leaf and Petal Garden Club provided her with excellent friends.

Doris loved her family and supported them in all of their endeavors. She was a proud hockey mom, a grade school tutor, confirmation teacher, room mother, and picture lady who brought in famous paintings to her children’s classrooms. She loved going to her grandchildren’s dance recitals, gymnastics meets, track meets, rock climbing competitions, and concerts. Doris would tell anyone who would listen how proud she was of her sons and grandchildren. She particularly loved gathering her family for holidays. She would hide over 300 Easter Eggs for her family and made traditional Italian stuffed shells with homemade sugo for Christmas every year.

She is survived by her sons, Mike (Pam), Carl (Nancy Hinrichs), Dale (Dawn), and Paul (Andrea) Wiehe; grandchildren, Laurel Wiehe, John Smith-Wiehe (Lindsey), Sarah Svendsen (Adam), Hunter & Heather Wiehe, and Josh Wissler; great grandson, Louis Smith-Wiehe and future great-grandchild Svendsen (Sarah & Adam); sisters, Diane Sandberg (Lenny), Marlene Neuenschwander, Carol Anderson, sister-in-law, Judy Stahl, and sister and brother-in-law, Karen and Ron Thompson.

Doris was preceded in death by beloved husband, John Floyd “Jack” Wiehe; parents, Albert & Annie Stahl; parents-in-law, Marie and John F. Wiehe Sr; brother, Gary Stahl; brothers-in-law, Dave Anderson, Toby Neuenschwander, and David Wiehe.

The family would like to thank the staff at Cardigan Ridge Senior Living Center, Health Partners Hospice, Home Instead, and St Therese at St Odilia for their compassionate care.
