Ed Fischer, born August 10, 1937, was a celebrated professional editorial cartoonist whose career spanned more than 70 years and brought laughter, insight, and warmth to audiences of all ages. Beginning at an early age, Ed discovered his passion for drawing cartoons and went on to make a name for himself as a nationally recognized editorial cartoonist. His unique blend of sharp humor, gentle wit, and expressive artistry earned him a devoted following and a place in more than 50 syndicated newspapers. Over the course of his career, he published more than eight books, met three U.S. presidents, and was a regular attendee at the National Press Club.
Ed was known for his humor, quirkiness, and his soft heart for the underdog. His cartoons had the rare ability to make people laugh, think, and occasionally bristle - but always feel something. He took great pride in his work and the joy it brought to others, yet his greatest pride was his family.
Ed is survived by his special friend, Jan Anderson; ex-wife, Phyllis Price, and his four daughters; Rebekka Fisher (Jim McNelis), Pam Hession (Conal), Jacqueline Fisher, and Paula Wu (Kevin); along with grandchildren, Jessica Tounsley, Medea, Lydia, & Ian Wu, and Ethan, Spencer & Liam Hession, who he deeply cherished.
Whether through a pen stroke or a perfectly timed remark, Ed had an extraordinary gift for finding humor in any situation. His quick wit and playful spirit made him a fun-loving and memorable presence to all who knew him. His legacy lives on through his cartoons, which continue to make people smile, and through the strong, loving family bonds he valued above all else.
