Elizabeth "Betty" Olson (Ziebol)

Age 90, of Maplewood, died peacefully on November 15, 2022, surrounded by family. 

Preceded in death by beloved husband, Richard "Dick"; parents, Matthew & Elizabeth Ziebol; and 9 siblings.   

Survived by sons, Greg (Kim), Jeff (Mary Kay), Allen (Stephanie Nealy); 6 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; and siblings, Irene (Bill) Stearn & James (Jean) Ziebol. 

Betty was born in St Cloud, MN to Matthew and Elizabeth Ziebol on January 7, 1932 and was one of 12 children they were blessed with. Betty resided in St. Cloud, MN until she moved to the Twin Cities to pursue a career in Nursing. She graduated from St. Catherine’s College with her degree in Nursing in 1953.

Shortly after graduation, she met and married her love Richard “Dick” Olson and they settled down in Maplewood, MN. Betty raised a family and worked as a nurse (her passion) until her retirement. Known as a feisty and sarcastic woman, she didn’t come by the nickname “Growler” by chance, she earned it! She was a strong woman and could dish it out as well as she could take it!

Betty relished her family on both sides of the equation and especially loved to watch her grandkids and great-grandkids grow up. She enjoyed puzzles (minimum 1000 pieces), bowling, golfing, knitting, quilting, bingo; and loved watching her beloved Vikings as well as game shows to keep challenging her mind. At the end she accepted her fate and looked forward to allowing her soul to move on and join Dick, her friends and family who preceded her in heaven. We have no doubt that she is watching over us as a guiding light.

Mass of Christian Burial 11 AM Tuesday, November 29 at the Church of St. Jerome, 380 E. Roselawn Ave., Maplewood. Visitation 4-7 PM Monday at Mueller-Bies Funeral Home-Roseville, 2130 N. Dale St. @ County Rd. B and at church on Tuesday from 10-11 AM.  Private interment Roselawn Cemetery.
