Listen to Obituary

Harold R. Anderson of Roseville, Minnesota age 94, died peacefully surrounded by family on January 31, 2026. Harold was married for 53 years to Marilyn (Gehrke) Anderson from May 25, 1952, until her death on December 19, 2005. They raised six kids together. Harold shared almost 13 years of marriage with Greta (Korst) Anderson from 2006 until her death in 2019. Harold was also preceded in death by his son, Ken Anderson and two grandsons, Joe and Reid McCann. He is survived by children, Jean (Chuck) McCann, John Anderson, Wendy (Pete) Annis, Gail (Bob) Reichenbach, and Doug (Mary) Anderson. Also survived by grandson, Ted (Theresa) McCann; granddaughter, Severina Anderson; step-grandson, Chris Reichenbach; and four great granddaughters, Emma (fiancé Konner), Lila, Cora, and Bria McCann. Harold is also survived by his beloved sister, Nadine Wachholz and nephews, Rob (Laurie), Karl, and Kurt (Tracy) Wachholz. Harold was very fond of the many, many Gehrke relatives on Marilyn’s side of the family.

Harold Roger Anderson was born on February 15, 1931, to Harold V. and Dorothy Anderson in St. Paul, Minnesota. He acquired several nicknames through the years including “Sonny” (from family), “Moses” (from friends), and “Andy” (from co-workers and fellow curlers). Harold served in the Navy during the Korean War and was stationed in Japan. After coming home, he worked at Northern States Power Company (NSP) for well over 30 years as an accountant. He retired in 1988 and was blessed to enjoy retirement longer than he worked. He and Marilyn spent about 15 years of active retirement in Pine City, Minnesota on Cross Lake before returning to Roseville. Harold and Greta spent their years together in Brooklyn Park. No matter where he went, he inevitably ended up as Treasurer of whatever organization that needed one.

Harold was an active member of various Lutheran Churches including St. Stephanus in St. Paul, King of Kings in Roseville, and Zion in Pine City. He put all six of his children through Lutheran school at Central Lutheran, King of Kings, and Concordia Academy. He also played pitcher on church softball teams. He seemed lucky at playing cards and he and Marilyn were part of a regular card club with the Dickhudts, Eckerts, and Schmidts, which extended to a larger group of family and friends.

Harold was a long-time prolific curler at the St. Paul Curling Club and was honored by being named a “Lifetime Member.” He shared his on-ice skills in leagues and many bonspiels over the years and was a true “gentleman of the game” off the ice. He was proud to be vice skip for the Jack McCann rink, which won two National Senior Curling Championships in 1990 and 1992. Harold’s father was a curler before him, and “Sonny” passed on his love of the game to many of his family members.

Many thanks to the staff at New Perspective Rosedale for the loving care they provided Harold at his final residence.
