Emblem

John Joseph Hurst was born in Bemidji, MN on September 9, 1942 and passed away in Circle Pines, MN on August 19, 2024.

He is preceded in death by parents, Robert E. and Elsie M. Hurst; siblings, Lois Enquist, Robert G. Hurst and Ellen Harmer; and daughter, Renee Thompson.

John is survived by his wife, Linda Hurst; sister, Dorothy Silva (John); children, Dee Dee Potter (Scott), Lisa Mottl (Shawn), Jen Henke (Ryan), Tony Hurst, Danielle Hurst and Michael Hurst; along with eleven grandchildren, three great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; and fur babies, JJ, GiGi, NeNe and Bebe.

John played many roles in his lifetime, one most notably as a father. Not only did John have three biological children, he adopted three more children and worked as a foster care provider from 1991-2012. Taking care of others came innately to John and could be felt by simply being in his presence. John was known to tear up a dance floor and swing a mean golf club. He was also a proud veteran and served in the Navy from 1958-1962.
