Listen to Obituary

Jon Earl Lundin (85) passed away peacefully in his Hilton Head Island home on Monday evening, November 24, 2025. Jon was born in Mankato, Minnesota on June 18, 1940.

Jon graduated from Mankato High School in 1958. He attended one year at St Olaf College and was accepted at the United States Military Academy at West Point where he graduated in 1963. He married his first wife Becky Em Pederson of Amboy, Minnesota that summer and they spent their early years of marriage in Germany with the Army, enjoying many adventures and travels throughout Europe.

Jon was in the 101st Airborne and served his country during the Vietnam war. Jon safely returned home in December of 1968 to rejoin Becky and his one-year old daughter, Liv. He was awarded the Bronze Star along with numerous Vietnam Service medals.

After leaving the military, Jon spent over 30 years with 3M and retired at the end of 1998, as Manager of Quality Engineering. While at 3M Jon received his Master’s in Business Administration from the University of St Thomas. During this time Jon’s first wife Becky died of cancer. Jon was blessed to find a second love, and married Sandra Kay Shrewsbury in 1991.

Jon was an active member of the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, serving as assistant minister, on the church council and singing in the choir. Jon was also a member of the German Männerchor in St Paul. In addition, Jon helped many non-profit organizations with facilitation and strategic planning.

Jon shared his time between Minnesota and Hilton Head. While in Hilton Head Jon was active in the local community. He was a member of the Van Landingham Rotary Club and was a Paul Harris Felllow. He enjoyed serving annual projects including the Thanksgiving Food Basket delivery, the annual auction, and the Heritage Golf Tournament popcorn wagon. Jon attended Christ Lutheran Church, and was a faithful patron of the Jazz Corner, and supporter of the Junior Jazz Foundation.

Papa Jon, as he was affectionately known, brought much joy to the lives of all who had the privilege of knowing him. Jon enjoyed golfing, hunting, fishing and four-wheeling at his Gunn Lake cabin, theater, all music, playing his guitar and keyboard, and he was a loyal Minnesota sports fan. He especially loved watching his grandson’s play their various sports. Papa Jon was their #1 fan. He had a zest for life and was always ready to spend time with his family and friends. Jon’s unwavering faith and trust in God shaped the way he lived and cared for others.

Jon is preceded in death by his parents, Vernard and Orpha Lundin; wife, Becky Pederson Lundin; wife, Sandra Shrewsbury; and stepmother, Iris Nigg Lundin.

Jon is survived by his sister, Joanne Hyde of Cottage Grove, MN; daughter, Liv Brown (Ken) of Monroe, NC; stepdaughters, Nicole Erickson (Bill) of Stillwater, MN and Stacy Retka (Joe) of Rosemount, MN; four grandsons, Kenny Brown, Ty Erickson, Zack Retka, and Burke Retka. He also leaves 4 nieces and 4 nephews, and other family members and friends who will fondly remember him.

A funeral service will be held on Monday, December 15, 2025, at 10:00 AM at The Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, 3115 Victoria St N, Roseville, MN 55113. The family will receive friends at 9:00 AM prior to the service. Following the services there will be a procession to Fort Snelling National Cemetery where Jon will be buried with Military Honors.
