Husband of Margie (Schottler); father of Alyssa, Joe, Ellen (Laura), and Peter; grandfather of Owen and Iggy; brother of Anne (Kenny) Katz, Peggy (John) Magnuson, Nick (Mona), Patty, and Michelle (Kurt) Noltimier; in-law of the Schottler family; uncle of many nieces and nephews.
Preceded in death by his parents, Joe and Katie Hamel.
Joe was a life-long learner abound with skills, hobbies, and passions. He loved being at the cabin with family-working on projects, sailing, or walking in the woods. He enjoyed every moment of his annual canoe trips with family and friends.
He was an avid reader, poetry enthusiast, crossword puzzle solver, skilled builder, and problem solver. He was the one to call if you had a question about anything. He was a role model and guide to many, a dear friend, a proud brother and uncle, and a wholehearted husband, father, and grandfather. Our lives are richer, fuller, and more interesting because of him.
Visitation 4:00 - 7:00 PM Wednesday, February 7 at Mueller-Bies Funeral Home-Roseville, 2130 N. Dale St. at County Rd. B.
Visitation 10:00 - 11:00 AM Thursday, February 8 at the Church of St. Cecilia, 2357 Bayless Place, St. Paul, MN followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11:00 AM.
