Karen Ann Titrud, age 86, of St. Anthony Park, died October 5, 2026 at home. She was born July 16, 1940, in North Branch, Minnesota, to James and Frances (Peterson) Titrud.
She earned a Bachelor’s of Arts in Social Work and Sociology at Macalester College; later a Master’s Degree at Washington University in St. Louis. Karen was a social worker at Regions Hospital 1967–1987. Then from 1987 to retirement she was at Hennepin County Social Services, working in Child Protection. She was also a University of Minnesota School of Social Work field instructor. She taught English as a second language and traveled abroad extensively. A serious injury on vacation in Germany changed her life and mobility possibilities.
Karen was a longtime active member of St. Anthony Park Lutheran Church. She sang in the choir until her injury. Though Swedish, Karen belonged to the St. David’s [Welsh] Society of Minnesota for about 35 years. She joined because she enjoyed the singing. She sang in the North American Welsh Choir until her physical condition made that impossible.
