Listen to Obituary

Age 90. Passed away peacefully with family by her side on January 7, 2025.

LaVerne was born in Centerville, MN on November 20, 1935 to parents Chauncey and Violet Barett.

She worked at Honeywell for 32 years and retired in 1992. After her retirement from Honeywell, she later went on to work at Festival Foods in Lexington for 21 years until December 2023.

Laverne was a beautiful soul whose life was defined by love, kindness, and quiet strength. To know Laverne was to love her.

Her greatest joy was her family, especially her son, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren. They were her delight, and she poured her love into them freely and wholeheartedly. Whether through gentle guidance, warm hugs, or simply being present, she made each of them feel cherished and deeply loved.

Laverne had a way of making people feel at home and at peace. Her gentle presence, thoughtful words, and unwavering support made her the steady heart of her family. She lived her life with grace, compassion, and selflessness, teaching those around her the true meaning of love and devotion.

LaVerne was a gifted ceramic artist, winning many awards for her creations. She was also a very talented quilter spending hours making beautifully crafted designs, most of which she gifted to loved ones. She was also known for making delicious candy which she gave generously to many friends and family at Christmas time each year.

LaVerne had a charitable spirit and gave freely of her time over the years volunteering with Unity Hospital Auxiliary, was a member of the CCW at St Joseph’s Catholic Church and served many funeral luncheons over the years.

Though our hearts ache in her absence, we find comfort in knowing that her love lives on through her loved ones — in their memories, their laughter, and the values she instilled in them. Her legacy is one of unwavering love, family, and faith that will continue for generations.

Preceded in death by her parents; her brothers, Ken, Bob, and Lorren; and sisters, Marvella and Shirley; and her husband, James.

Survived by son Rick, his fiancée Sue and her children Nathan (Sophie) and Kayla (John); her three granddaughters and their families, Angelee and her fiancé Jake and his daughter Halle, Ashlee and her husband Brian and their children Maxwell, Cruz and Leni, and Amberlee. As well as many cherished nieces, nephews and friends.
