Mary Jane Hawkins

With deep sadness, we announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, Mary, who bravely fought cancer and passed away on May 9th at the age of 79, surrounded by her family’s love.

Mary was born on September 22, 1945 at Fort Snelling, in Minneapolis, MN. Mary devoted her life to nurturing both people and plants. After marrying the love of her life, James Hawkins, she built a home filled with warmth, laughter, and the vibrant colors of the gardens she so lovingly tended. She worked for many years in a greenhouse, where her passion for flowers and greenery bloomed as brightly as the gardens she cared for. She was an avid crocheter and was always creating for a loved one. Her cozy home was always filled with her craft, and the sweet scents of the plants she cherished, both of which was a living testament to her love of nature and comfort.

She was a devoted mother, proud grandmother, and delighted great grandmother. For the past 25 years she was accompanied by her dedicated Guide Dog companions; Curtis, Keaton and Kidder. Her family will forever remember her for her warmth, her wisdom, and the gentle care she showed to every living thing.

Mary taught her loved ones to slow down, enjoy nature, and take the time to stop and smell the roses. Whether she was sharing cuttings from her favorite plants, teaching us how to coax a seed into bloom, or simply sitting in her garden with a cup of coffee enjoying the birds, Mary showed us the beauty of patience, love, and quiet joy.

A celebration of her life will be held from 2-5 PM Thursday, May 15 at Mueller-Bies Funeral Home - Roseville, 2130 N. Dale St. at County Rd B. Family and friends are invited to join us in remembering her and sharing their stories.

Though she is no longer with us, her spirit will live on in every flower that blooms and every garden that grows, and every joyful greeting from a dedicated dog. She will be deeply missed and forever loved and honored.
