MaryAnn Weckwerth

August 5, 1933 — August 4, 2023

Shoreview

With great anticipation of seeing her Lord and Savior face to face, long time Shoreview resident Mary Ann Weckwerth passed away on August 4th, 2023.

Mary Ann was born the youngest of three children on a farm in Mandt Township, MN on August 5th, 1933. She was Baptized on September 14, 1933 at Big Bend Congregation.

When Mary Ann was very young, her mother, Hanstina, became very ill and disabled. Mary Ann moved to the farm of her paternal aunt, Hattie Norby. Mary Ann and her cousin, Renola, became very close, growing up together, going dancing, and sharing many wonderful times. Hanstina eventually died when Mary Ann was 16 years old, but not before leaving a deep and loving impression on Mary Ann.

After graduating from Starbuck High School, Mary Ann realized the farm was no place for her and she moved to St. Paul. She got a job at Univac where she met Dave Weckwerth. It was literally love at first sight and they married in 1960. They adopted and raised well two children, Kevin in 1965 and Jim in 1967. In 1969 they moved to Shoreview. Dave died in 2019 but Mary Ann ended up living in that house for 54 years.

Mary Ann made that house a home for the family. She had a large garden. She canned tomatoes and pickles every year. She decorated and redecorated the house many times. She enjoyed many crafts, particularly sewing and embroidery. She made clothes(including underwear) for family and did mending for friends. She collected helpful hints to help make life easier and always had some solution to almost any household problem. She was an excellent cook and loved making treats for Christmas. She and her good friend and neighbor Dorothy made a memorable tradition of making popcorn balls every year for Christmas.

Mary Ann enjoyed several pastimes. She was an avid bowler for many years. She loved to dance; her and Dave would go dancing whenever possible. She loved the summer vacations on Pelican Lake and was a big fan of country music, the Minnesota Vikings, and reading history books.

We thank God for experiencing life with Mary Ann in it. Most of all, we thank God in Jesus Christ for giving her the confident hope of peace and new life beyond death.

Mary Ann was preceded in death by her husband, David; parents, Ruben and Hanstina Golden; sister, Gloria Johnson; and brother, Raymond Golden.

She is survived by sons, Kevin (Angela) and Jim (Cindy); grandchildren, Nicholas Langer, Joseph, and Analeese; great-grandsons, Christopher and Wyatt Langer, and Owen Hanson.

We have been very grateful to her neighbors and friends for the love, support, and care they gave Mary Ann, especially in recent months. We are very grateful, as well, for the care and attention given to her by the staff of The Lakes in Stillwater and her hospice care team.
