Mary Ann "Minnie" McMonigal

Age 90 of Maplewood; passed away peacefully on April 29, 2021.​Minnie was born June 9, 1930 to Anthony and Anna (nee Stoffel) Fasnacht. Her mother passed away following the birth of her brother, David Fasnacht, when she was two years old. Mary Ann was nurtured by her father, Anthony; grandmother Elizabeth Fasnacht; and mother, Margaret (nee Sipple) Fasnacht near Madison Lake, MN.   When Mary Ann was 10 years old, she had rheumatic fever and spent one whole year in bed to heal her heart. Mary Ann received the Sacraments of baptism, first communion, confirmation, and matrimony at All Saint’s Catholic Church. She attended All Saints School, District #52, a one room schoolhouse, and graduated from Good Counsel Academy (1949) and St. Catherine’s School of Nursing (1952). In high school, Mary Ann was titled Miss Happiness for “laughing eyes, a radiant smile, and an ever present courtesy to all. She had vitality, versatitlity, and a certain inner glow” and she remained like that throughout her life. Mary Ann married Patrick McMonigal on October 25, 1952. He nicknamed her Minnie, and the name stuck. They had three children, Raymond, Michael, and Joy. Minnie was a nurse at St. Joseph’s Hospital for 40+ years.  She was a faith member of St. Jerome’s Catholic Church and along with Pat, the Antique Car Club. Minnie was preceded in death by her husband, Patrick; son, Raymond; stillborn daughter, Mary Therese; grandson, Trevor Kern; mother, Anna Fasnacht; father, Anthony (Margaret) Fasnacht; brother, David Fasnacht in Vietnam; sisters and brothers in law, Joanne (Al) Kraft, Mary (Tony) Skarda, & Richard Castle.  Minnie is survived by sister-in-law, Joyce Castle; siblings, Kenny Fasnacht, Aggie (Leon) Bartholome, Bill Fasnacht, Bernie (Nancy) Fasnacht, Esther (Ted) Ewert, and George (Janet) Fasnacht. Special family members include Melissa Moran, Dan (Marge) Moran, Sue (Frank) Moran, Sheila (Mike) O’Brien, and Carl (Barb) Morgan.  Minnie will be lovingly remembered by her son, Michael; daughter, Joy (Bill) Minder; grandchildren, Jeremey, Keri, Kristine, Sean, Ryan, Brexton, & Kaitlyn; seven great grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.​Mass of Christian Burial 11 AM, Thursday May 6 at the CHURCH OF ST. JEROME, 380 E. Roselawn Ave., Maplewood.​Interment at Fort Snelling at a later date.  Rosary at 10:30 AM, Thursday, May 6 at CHURCH. In lieu of flowers, memorials preferred to St. Jerome’s Catholic School.
