Michael Alan Metcalf

May 30, 1992 — July 3, 2022

Michael Alan Metcalf peacefully joined his Heavenly Father on the evening of July 3, 2022 with his dedicated mother, Joni, and devoted caregiver, Dalton, at his side. He was a very joyful, kind, caring, genuine soul with amazing strength. He was deeply loved and loved others deeply. Michael was born to Peter Metcalf and Joni Spaulding on May 30, 1992 in Fridley, MN. He attended the White Bear Lake School, Bridgeview and Focus Beyond Transition School in St Paul and touched the hearts of his teachers and paraprofessionals. He enjoyed telling stories, playing with toys, therapeutic horseback riding and swimming, singing songs and schmoozing with anyone and everyone. At age four he was diagnosed with a rare, degenerative brain disease called Batten Disease. This would eventually rid him of his abilities to see, walk, and talk. Michael lived with the determination of not letting this disease restrain him. He was a lover of people and cared for everyone he met. He is survived by his mother, Joni Spaulding, and father, Peter Metcalf; sister, Briana (Luke) Fernandez; niece and nephew, Sophia Rae and Oliver Michael Fernandez and several aunts, uncles and cousins. Michael’s caregivers that loved him dearly and are considered “family” are Brenda Heimerl, Cathy Vedoy, Dalton Byers, and Steve Pagnotta, who faithfully cared for him until the very end. He is preceded in death by his grandparents, Richard Spaulding and Catherine Markgraf; Robert and Constance Metcalf and Zeke, his companion cat.
