Ordean C. Joachim

Age 96, of Columbus, MN, passed away peacefully on May 1, 2025, at Parmly on the Lake Residence in Chisago City after a brief illness. 

Born on 10/22/1928 in Hillsboro, ND, “Dean” was a loving husband and father, an avid fisherman and hunter who loved to garden and grow pine trees. A career employee of Sperry Univac (Unisys), where he held several patents in computer equipment design, Dean was very proud to have become a principal engineer with only a high school education. A veteran of the Korean conflict, Dean was stationed at remote outposts above the Arctic Circle as a radarman, watching to see if Russia would send missiles over the top of the world towards the US. Later in his service, he was part of Project Lincoln in association with MIT, stationed at a radar facility in Rockport, MA. It was during this time that he met the love of his life – his dear wife Florence, who was a Boston native. Bringing her back to live in Minnesota in 1955, they raised 4 boys while living in Minneapolis, and later in Columbus, where he and Florence were active in St. Joseph of the Lakes operations and support. Dean was admired, respected and loved by all who knew him. 

Preceded in death by his loving wife of 60 years, Florence; his parents, Edward and Clara; brother, Kenneth; and sister, Ethel. 

Survived by his sons, Michael, Stephen, Dan (Lynn), and John (Kathleen); grandchildren Laura (Alex) Berg and Paul; great-grandchildren, Anders and Elisabeth Berg. 

Mass of Christian Burial 11:00 AM Thursday, May 8 at St. Joseph of the Lakes Catholic Church, 171 Elm St., Lino Lakes. Visitation 10-11 AM Thursday at the church. 

In lieu of flowers, donations may be given to St. Joseph of the Lakes.
