Listen to Obituary

Ruth Lillian (Welsch) Weyandt was born December 10th, 1926 and died February 27th, 2026.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Tom Weyandt Sr.; sisters, Edith, Marie, Kaddy Lorraine and Margie; brothers, Bruts (Henry), Wally, James and Ron.

She is survived by her children, Mary Beth (Edward) Mielech, Tom (Diane) Weyandt, Joan Weyandt (John Gustafson), and Jerry (Michele) Weyandt; along with 14 grandchildren, Sarah, Angela, Peter, Susan, Christopher, Adam, Laura, Emily, Logan, Spencer, Michael, Rachel, Emily and Baylee; 13 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great grandchildren. Ruth also had a huge number of surviving nieces and nephews, other relatives and friends.

Ruth grew up on Rice Street across from St Bernard’s Church and School, where both she and Tom went to grade school. She attended St. Joseph’s Academy in St. Paul where she made lifelong friends, continuing to meet almost monthly and enjoy their lasting friendship well into their 90’s. The ‘Club Ladies’ were bonus extended family for us.

Ruth and Tom were married in 1947, they lived a bit further down Rice Street but near both of their parents’ homes. They raised four children in a close neighborhood surrounded by an enormous number of Welsch and Weyandt cousins, aunts, and uncles, which kept everyone laughing and behaving. Ruth loved her family and her faith, which revolved around the corner where Grandma and Grandpa Welsch continued to live until they were in their late 80’s.

Ruth Weyandt lived a long and independent life, continuing to live on her own until her recent hospitalization. Her family, church and school molded her into a strong and positive woman, and she lived life well. She loved to feed everyone, cooking and baking daily, and finding new recipes online to try. She was never without a treat and a cup of coffee when anyone stopped in to see her. She was still baking brownies at age 99.

Special thanks to Trescia Dunn who helped Ruth weekly; playing cards, laughing and cooking together. That companionship the past few years was a great help to keep her in her own home.
