Steven (Steve) Johnson Reed, 64, of Lino Lakes, passed away on March 27th, 2026.
Steve will be remembered for his humor, his big heart, and the deep love he had for his family. He was a dedicated husband, father, grandfather, brother, and friend who showed up in ways both big and small.
He shared a long and loving partnership with his wife, Marcia. She sought out a partner who would be fun and adventurous, and found that in him, along with a supportive and steady presence as a father. Together, they built a life and raised a family that reflects both of them.
He took great joy in raising his children alongside his wife, and was proud of the people they became. He encouraged them to think for themselves and trust their own judgment, a reflection of his own independent nature. He was a constant presence in their younger years, rarely missing a soccer, hockey, lacrosse, or football game. Rain, snow, or sunshine, you could always hear his voice, and his choppers, echoing through the stands.
Steve always had a way of connecting with people, sometimes with a story, sometimes through laughter, and sometimes in moments that surprised you. Many still remember the impact he made coaching a 3rd grade football team, an experience that left a lasting impression and is still talked about years later. The connections he built lasted far beyond a single season and meant more than he likely ever realized.
He was also known for moments that stayed with people, like the speech he gave at his daughter’s wedding. He took that time to honor her, proudly sharing who she was and who she had become. Many later said they had no idea about half of what he shared, and were impressed by the way he made space to recognize her accomplishments and express just how proud he was.
His grandson shared a special bond with him, one that often surprised those around them. They had similarities that didn’t go unnoticed and were often joked about. While it is hard to know he won’t get to know his grandpa as he grows, those same similarities will no doubt stay with him.
He was a loyal Minnesota sports fan through and through, holding onto hope season after season, often frustrated by the losses but always ready to celebrate a win. He found comfort in watching games, movies, and spending time with those he loved, including his dogs, Kaiya and Pearl. He loved dogs, especially Great Danes, like those he grew up with. When it came time to choose a dog for his own family, he landed on a Golden Retriever. Somehow, along the way, the family developed a special spot for hounds. We’ve been fortunate to have a number of dogs as part of our family’s life. That love, along with his humor and a bit of his wild side, will always be a part of his children and so many others who knew and loved him.
He was a beloved brother and part of a large and close-knit family. There are countless stories that could be told about him. Stories filled with humor, honesty, and moments that defined who he was. It is hard to fully capture the depth of his impact in just a few words, but he will be remembered in the stories that will continue to be told for years, the joy and laughter that follows, and the lasting impression he left on those who knew and loved him. We look forward to hearing your stories and the many ways he showed up, both big and small, at the celebration of his life.
He is survived by his wife, Marcia; his children, Jena (Jack) and Paden; his grandchild, Paden; his siblings William (Theresa), Chris (Jeri), Dan (Sharon), Ken (Becky), Laura (Keith), Sue (Dan); and his sister-in-law, Jess, wife of the late Dave; and many nieces, nephews, and family members. He was preceded in death by his parents, William and Jeanne, and his siblings, Dave and Mary.
A celebration of Steve’s life will be held on April 17th, 10 AM - 12 PM at Mueller-Bies Funeral Home in Lino Lakes. Please feel free to dress casually, as that is what he would have wanted.
