Thomas Howard Valois passed away peacefully on June 8, 2026. He was a loving father, son, brother, uncle, friend, animal lover, and colleague who was kind, had a good sense of humor and generous heart.

Above all else, Tom’s greatest joy in life was being a father. He never missed an opportunity to support his children, whether it was attending sporting events, school activities, or life’s important milestones. His children were the center of his world, and he took pride in being present for every game, performance, and achievement.

Tom had a special love for animals and taught his children to treat every creature with kindness and compassion. Over the years, he shared our home with a unique variety of pets, including dogs, cats, guinea pigs, lionfish, stingrays, eels, and many others. One of his greatest joys was raising ducks on the family pond in Centerville, creating memories that will be cherished forever.

Family meant everything to Tom. He loved gathering with his parents, his brother Kevin’s family, and extended relatives whenever possible. Some of the family’s most treasured memories were made at his parents’ home at Carefree Country club, where cousins spent countless hours swimming and riding around on golf carts together. He also cherished visits to his parents’ home in Fort Myers, Florida, where family traditions included snorkeling in the ocean, discovering sea life, and enjoying seafood together.

Another special place in Tom’s heart was Grandma Dee’s cabin, where he spent time four-wheeling, boating, and pulling family and friends on tubes and water skis behind his red speedboat. Whether spending time with the Valois family or the Swangstue family, Tom found happiness in being with loved ones together and creating lasting memories. The moments shared in Florida and Minnesota remain some of his family’s most cherished experiences.

Tom dedicated his entire career to Metro Transit, proudly following in his father’s footsteps. He loved the friendships he built throughout the years. Many knew him as “The Candyman” because he faithfully arrived each week carrying large bags of candy to share with everyone around him. He was also known for cookouts and showing off his impressive cooking skills. Those who worked alongside him knew not only his generosity but also his loyalty, humor, and dedication.

In recent years, Tom especially enjoyed weekly dinners with his former wife, Kim, as they explored new restaurants throughout Minnesota. One of his favorite spots was Brickhouse in White Bear Lake. He also treasured his weekly Costco trips with his daughter, spending hours wandering nearly every aisle in search of something new to try. And few things made him happier than talking cars with his son Michael, sharing a passion that became a special bond between them.

As his family imagines Tom entering Heaven, they find comfort knowing he was greeted by many who loved him before. Waiting to welcome him were his beloved dogs Kiki and Gracie, his grandparents, Uncle Leon, Cousin Larry, Tommy and Kathy, and the many animals who brought him joy throughout his life.

While saying goodbye is hard, we know this is not forever. We know you will be the first one waiting for us in Heaven. We will carry with us your love and memory with us always.

“A father’s love is forever woven into the hearts of his children.”
