Rita Miskimen

(née Delehanty)

September 13, 1922 – June 21, 2022

Age 99, of Roseville, MN, formerly of Dayton, OH, passed away on June 21, 2022.

Preceded in death by husbands, James T. Miskimen and Vernon Braun; parents, James & Mary (née Shields) Delehanty; brothers, Robert, Leonard & George Delehanty; and sister, Therese Dotson.

Survived by children, Mary (Gary) Clark, Patty (John) Lankenau, Julie (Jim) Curtsinger, Marcia Miskimen; grandchildren, Colleen (Dave) Brand, Katie Clark, Charlie (Nikki) Curtsinger, Daniel Curtsinger; and brothers, John (Roz) Delehanty & Bill (Lorraine) Delehanty.

Rita grew up in Doyle, Minnesota, where her father ran a general store and train station. After graduating from Bethlehem Academy in Faribault, she attended teacher training school in Le Sueur and then became a country schoolteacher. She always valued education and her natural desire for learning led her to enroll in an intensive course in engineering at the University of Minnesota during WWII. After completing the course, she worked as an engineering editor at Wright Patterson Air Force Base in Dayton, Ohio where she met and married an Air Force man, Jim Miskimen. They raised 4 daughters in Dayton and blessed them with a happy life and a love of education as well.

Rita spent time working at a publishing company, and later as an editorial proofreader, so her love of language remained with her for her entire life. She was one who could do the New York Times Crossword puzzles in ink. She enjoyed visits from family, and was proficient using her computer and email long before most of her contemporaries. She published a family history book after years of painstaking research (long before Google) which now resides in multiple libraries.

Following the death of her first husband, Jim, Rita sold the house in Dayton that had been their home for over 40 years and moved to Roseville, Minnesota where two of her daughters live. This was when she reconnected with her boyfriend from before WWII, Vernon Braun. Since they had both lost their spouses, they spent time getting reacquainted and were married in 2008.

She will be remembered for her warm smile and welcoming demeanor. She was always up for inviting a new friend for a cup of coffee. She will be missed by family and friends alike.

Mass of Christian Burial 10 AM Wednesday, June 29 at The Church of St. Rose of Lima, 2048 N. Hamline Ave., Roseville. Visitation at the church from 9-10 AM Wednesday.
