Romanus “Romie” Hagel

June 29, 1932 – July 19, 2019

Age 87, of St. Paul, MN

Passed away peacefully, surrounded by family on July 19, 2019.

Preceded in death by his wife, Eileen; children, Mary Ellen and Baby Boy; grandchild, Christian; parents, Susanna and Henry; and siblings Clarence, Earnest, Lawrence, Viola, Cecelia, Elroy, Ethelreda, and Arline.

Survived by his children, Mark (Diane), John, Bob (Samantha), Anne (Tom Martino), and Deb (Heidi Johnson-Hagel); grandchildren, Ashley, Jordan, Jessie, Niki, Isabelle, Dave, Adeline, Ben, and Erin; great-grandchildren, Vance and Landen; close in-laws, Joanne (Stuart) and Barb; and many nieces and nephews.

Romie was actively involved in his church and his children’s elementary school, Holy Childhood, where he served as an usher for many years and volunteered for the school’s Boy Scout troop. A book lover and history buff, he regaled family, friends and neighbors with stories of growing up in Wisconsin and serving in the U.S. Air Force. A devoted husband, loving father and grandfather, kind uncle and good friend and neighbor, Romie will be missed by many. If you feel so inclined, raise a toast in his honor (sweet whites were his favorite, and his home-made dandelion wine was legendary).

Mass of Christian Burial at 10:00 AM Thursday, July 25 at HOLY CHILDHOOD CATHOLIC CHURCH, 1435 Midway Parkway, St. Paul. Interment 9 AM Friday, July 26 at Fort Snelling National Cemetery. Visitation at MUELLER-BIES FUNERAL HOME – ROSEVILLE, 2130 N. Dale Street at County Road B, from 5-8 PM Wednesday, and at the church from 9-10 AM Thursday.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations in Romie’s name to Sharing & Caring Hands, Fairview Foundation earmarked for The Pillars Hospice Home Fund, or the Ronald McDonald House.
