Wally passed away peacefully on August 31, 2022 – he lived his life with zest and will be deeply missed.  

He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Mary Ann (Koch); parents, Walter V. and Ida C.; and sister, Joan.

He is survived by his daughters, Pamela Pikus and Brenda Mastel (Jason Tancig); his cherished grandchildren, Hannah Mastel (Daniel Picardo) and Noah Pikus; his treasured friend, Maureen Carey; brother, Lawrence (Mary Noelle); sisters Joyce, Delores, Diane (Vic), Rosemary; many nieces, nephews and friends. 

Wally was born June 10, 1939 in St Paul, MN.  He grew up in St. Paul and attended Washington High School graduating in 1957.  He joined the Air Force in 1962 and served in TX, MS, AK, and ND.  While serving in ND he met and married Mary Ann Koch of Bismarck, ND on May 15, 1965.  They moved to St. Paul in 1966 and had two daughters, Pamela Ann and Brenda Mary.  The family moved to White Bear Lake, MN in 1972.  In October of 1988 Mary passed away of a cerebral hemorrhage.  Wally worked for 3M Company and retired after 40 years.  Wally met Maureen Carey in 1989 and they became close friends.   He moved to Surprise, AZ in 1998 where he met Patricia Norton.  They shared a life together from 1998 to 2018 until illness separated them, they remained in contact until his final days. The last four years of his life he was cared for by Maureen Carey and she was at his side when he passed away peacefully on August 31, 2022.  He was a two time cancer survivor but finally, in the end, he passed away from heart related complications.


Memorial Visitation 4-7 PM Wednesday, September 14 at MUELLER-BIES FUNERAL HOME-ROSEVILLE, 2130 N. Dale St at County Road B. Graveside service 11:00 AM Thursday, September 15 at ST. MARY OF THE LAKE CEMETERY, Stillwater St., White Bear Lake.
