Vernon "Vern" was born in Pine Grove, WI on a farm outside of Green Bay, WI. He attended High School in Bowler, Wi but in his senior year his family moved to Gresham, Wi where he met the love of his life, Donna.

Donna and Vern were eventually married but before that he was called to serve. He worked on a dairy farm for a year or two after High School before signing up to serve in the Coast Guard. This decision changed his life, allowing him to go to college after his service and eventually earn his master’s degree.

Vern taught school as a professor at the University of Wisconsin River Falls before moving to Wausau Wi where he worked for the state of Wi as a soil and water specialist. In Wausau he ran for office and was elected to the city council as well as the County Board where he served as Board Chair.

In 1975 Vern and Donna and their family moved to Lino Lakes when he accepted a position as executive director of the soil and water department for Minnesota. Vern worked for the state for many years before starting a real estate company that he ran until his retirement in 1995. For the last 30 years Vern and Donna enjoyed their retirement spending winters in Arizonia, and summers at their home in Lino Lakes and their cabin on the Rainy River.

Vern also served on the Lino Lakes City Council and eventually became Mayor. Over those years he was instrumental in guiding the city in a direction that helped the city grow into a very desirable community where people want to live and raise a family.

Vern was a great dad, traveling with his family and five children to all parts of the country with a fold down camper towed behind the station wagon. Vern also enjoyed taking his sons hunting and fishing and the family enjoyed snowmobiling.

Vern was preceded in death by his wife of 71 years, Donna; son-in-Law Jake; and grandson Lucas. Vern is survived by his children, Cheryl Lamers (Arnie), Steve Reinert (Geri), Jeff Reinert (Lisa), John Reinert, and Lisa Delgado (David); as well as his 14 grandchildren and 17 great grandchildren. He will be missed by all.

Mass of Christian Burial 11 AM Thursday September 17, 2026 at St. Joseph of the Lakes Catholic Church, 171 Elm St., Lino Lakes, MN 55014. Visitation at the church from 10-11 AM Thursday. Luncheon to follow the Mass at the Church, all are welcome.
